Two men are behind bars after they were allegedly caught driving a truck filled with bootleg gas south of the border in Matamoros.
The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) reported the incident happened late last week.
In a statement released on Thursday, SEMAR officials reported that Marines on patrol came across a cargo truck.
The marines found three 317-gallon (1,200 liters) tanks and two 5-gallon tanks in the back of the truck.
Two of the 317-gallon tanks still had gasoline inside them.
It TMs not clear if they were selling the gasoline or delivering it but the two men remain jailed while the case remains under investigation by federal authorities.
Illegal fuel siphons and a black market for gasoline continue to plague Mexico TMs national petroleum company, PEMEX.
Mexico TMs El Universal newspaper reported on Friday morning that PEMEX lost $249 million dollars in revenue due to illegal fuel siphons.
