A 20-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly sexually abusing a child who he met at a bus stop.
Porfirio Rico was arrested because of an alleged sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl, documents obtained by Action 4 News say.
The relationship started when Rico met the child at a bus stop, and allegedly exchanged multiple texts over the course of a year.
An affidavit obtained by Action 4 News reveals the mother of the child contacted authorities when she found out what was going on.
Authorities then showed up to Rico's home in Brownsville where they received voluntary consent to search the residence, the documents say.
In the home, authorities discovered marijuana, open condom wrappers, and used condoms, which they confiscated as evidence.
Rico was transported to the Cameron County Sheriff's Office for questioning.
There, police documented, Rico admitted to the sexual relationship.
The child was referred to the Child Adult Abuse Response Team at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
The clothes the child wore during the time of the alleged sexual assault were seized as evidence by county deputies.
Rico was arrested on Valentine's Day and transported to the Cameron County Jail.
He was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony.
Rico received bonds of $100,000 for two charges of sexual assault , and $2,500 for possession of marijuana.
