Valley state representative's Facebook account hacked

A Texas state representative from the Rio Grande Valley is taking more on-line security precautions after her Facebook account was hacked.

State Rep. Veronica Gonzales (D-McAllen) reported on Monday morning that her Facebook page had been hacked.

Good morning (facebook) friends, Gonzales said on-line. It seems my account was hacked or someone created an account appearing to be from me. If you got something inappropriate, I apologize and assure you, it wasn't from me.

Gonzales, who has close to 4,600 Facebook friends, is known for making extensive use of social media in keeping contact with constituents.

The McAllen-based lawmaker has also used Facebook in her re-election campaigns.

Gonzales said on-line that she TMs keeping her account but will be taking the appropriate security precautions to prevent any other incident.

Action 4 News is working on getting an interview about cyber security with Gonzales for our 6 p.m. newscast.
