Saving energy may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Memorial Day.
But that is just what the State of Texas wants you do to.
The Lone Star State has declared May 28th through the 30th as a sales tax holiday for Energy Star appliances.
"Energy star products are items that TMs going to save you energy, which is what we are all about, trying to conserve energy," said Martin Ledesma with the Lowe's store in Harlingen.
Energy appliances that are on the list include, washers, dryers, air conditioners, dishwashers, stoves, and refrigerators.
Lowe's will be giving an additional 15 percent discount on top of the no tax sales.
During the week before Memorial Day, Lowe's will be handing out ads to alert people of this special day.
This is Lowes second year participating and they believe more people are turning to energy efficient appliances.
"Customers also have become more informed on products, we've seen more and more products becoming energy star," Ledesma said.
In addition to saving you money and saving the environment, this weekend hits at the heart for many of the Lowe's employees since their family members are in the military.
Lowe's will be donating $1 million dollars to military troops and their families.
The Lowe's in Harlingen will be open normal hour from 7a.m. to 9 p.m. including Saturday and on Memorial Day.
On Sunday, they will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
