Valley woman sends care packages to Venezuela
For Aida Shorthill, the crisis in Venezuela is personal.
With her home country in turmoil, Shorthill helps by sending back care packages. Her niece and nephew hands out the boxes — filled with canned food and household staples — to anyone who needs help.
"Venezuela right now, people are starving to death," Shorthill said, adding that people often wait in long lines to buy food.
According to the Associated Press:
Venezuela has been caught in internal strife, pitting socialist President Nicolas Maduro against an opposition-led congress increasingly stripped of power. Underlying the civil unrest is a country living in poverty and beset by runaway inflation.
During the past few months, Shorthill said she's sent 10 care packages.
