Helping veterans make the transition to civilian life was the focus of a conference at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville Tuesday.
Speakers talked about how difficult it is for some veterans because of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
However, veterans are not the only ones who suffer from PTSD.
Crime victims and anyone who experiences a traumatic event can also suffer from the disorder.
For that reason, health experts encourage everyone to learn more about the disorder.
"We're trying to increase the awareness in the community on how to access psychiatric services, especially our military," said Dr. Daniel Villarreal of Valley Baptist Behavioral Health Services. "PTSD is nothing to be ashamed or embarassed of, but you should also not avoid addressing it."
For more information on post traumatic stress disorder, call the hospital at (956) 698-4700.
All calls are kept confidential.
