The scene along FM 2812 is quite different then it was Tuesday night.
Hidalgo County Sheriff TMs Office deputies scoured a mile perimeter in the area looking for at least eight men.
The suspects are believed to have shot and killed one man and critically injured another.
Tire marks were still visible on the pavement on Wednesday morning.
Ruts leading to a field are some of the only evidence left to show that something happened.
Investigators told Action 4 News that a white truck going west on FM 2812 was approached by the driver of a dark colored SUV.
Deputies said three men inside the SUV started shooting at the victims in the white truck.
Authorities identified the deceased in the case as the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Manuel Luna, who was hit multiple times.
The passenger, whose name has not been released by investigators, remains in critical but stable condition.
Investigators said they have promising leads but there isn't much they can release at this time while the case remains in the early stages of the investigation.
