      Victim of fatal jet ski accident identified as Stell Middle School student

      The victim in a fatal jet ski accident has been identified as a student of Stell Middle School in Brownsville.

      Both 13-year-old Joshua Alvarez and his older brother were involved in a jet ski accident in Laguna Madre over the weekend.

      The two boys were out with the father who lives in Weslaco but had visitation with them that weekend.

      Investigators said the boys hit a fishing boat while out on their jet skis.

      A Good Samaritan tried to help but Alvarez died from his injuries while his older brother is recovering at home.

      Brownsville Independent School District officials told Action 4 News that Stell Middle School is in mourning.

      School district officials have provided grievance counselors to students and staff.

      Alvarez was an student athlete and a member of the school TMs choir.

      School district officials said Alvarez TMs older brother is a student at Pace High School on the city TMs westside.

      Officials are sending home letters to the parents of Stell Middle School students with information and suggestions about talking to their children about the tragic event.
