Viral video prompts minor panic at Raymondville high school
Video of a student holding what appeared to be a pistol prompted a minor panic Wednesday at Raymondville Early College High School.
Posted on Facebook, the five-second video shows someone seated at a school desk holding what appears to be a pistol. After the video went viral, some Raymondville parents removed their children from class.
The Raymondville school district released a statement about the video:
Raymondville ISD Police Department is aware of the online threat and have taken juveniles involved in the social media post into custody. There is no immediate threat. Students are safe and we will continue investigating the case. Safety is our first priority. Again, there is no immediate threat. Our students are safe. More information will be released to the public later today.
Investigators determined the pistol was actually a BB gun, according to information provided by school district police Chief Oscar Gutierrez.
Investigators arrested the student, who the district didn't identify by name, and charged the student with prohibited weapon in a gun-free zone, a second-degree felony.
