Wanted sex offender caught shoplifting at Walmart
A wanted sex offender is back behind bars after he was allegedly caught shoplifting at a Walmart store in Alamo.
Alamo police arrested 32-year-old Ricardo Valdez on multiple criminal charges on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Valdez gave a false name but was recognized by a sergeant while he was inside the Alamo City Jail.
A records check using his real name revealed that Valdez was a convicted sex offender who lived off Hackberry Avenue.
Court records show Valdez served five years in prison for sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl in Alamo back in 2003.
Investigators said Valdez was in compliance with state sex offender registration and reporting laws but was wanted for a new child sexual abuse indictment out of Austin.
Court records show that Valdez is wanted in Travis County for three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Records show that Valdez was also wanted for an unpaid child support charge issued by Judge Noe Gonzalez with the 370th State District Court in Edinburg.
Alamo police booked Valdez into the Hidalgo County Jail for Class B misdemeanor theft, failure to identify, the warrants from Austin and child support charges.
Valdez is expected to remain in custody pending his extradition to Austin.
