Weslaco gets new mayor & two city commissioners

David Suarez elected Mayor of Weslaco

The Rio Grande Valley TMs seventh largest city has a new mayor and two newly-elected city commissioners.

Weslaco voters went to the polls where they swept David Suarez into office as the city TMs new mayor.

Suarez got 2,226 votes beating challenger Adrian Farias, who only received 1,892 votes.

Action 4 News spoke to Suarez after results were posted mid-Tuesday evening.

The mayor-elect said it TMs now to roll up his sleeves and get to work.

He said even though there will be a divide, he wants the commission to work together to improve the city TMs aging infrastructure.

City Commission Place 5 incumbent Lupe Rivera kept his seat with 487 votes compared to 471 ballots cast for challenger Letty Lopez.

Political newcomer Fidel Pea unseated City Commission Place 6 incumbent Joe A. Martinez.

Pea got 291 votes while Martinez got 194 of the ballots cast.
