Weslaco parents jailed for tying up, beating 3-year-old girl

A Weslaco mother and father are behind bars after they allegedly tied up and beat their 3-year-old daughter.

It all happened at their home near the intersection of FM 88 and Mile 15 1/2 North near Weslaco.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 20-year-old Maria A. Zuniga and 23-year-old Jose Luis Reyes over the weekend.

Investigators said deputies were called to the McAllen Medical Center on Friday.

A 3-year-old girl at the hospital had bruises throughout her body and her skull fracture.

Zuniga told deputies that she tied up the girl and punched her in the head and body because she was misbehaving.

Reyes told deputies that the tied up and kicked the girl because she was too loud and he wanted to sleep.

The girl remains in stable condition while Zuniga and Reyes are behind bars under first-degree felony injury to a child charge.

Reyes and Zuniga both appeared before a judge on Monday morning where they were issued $100,000 dollar bonds.
