Six members of an alleged shoplifting ring remain behind bars after an undercover investigation led to their arrests.
Weslaco police arrested the six on felony theft charges over the weekend.
Investigators said a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle filled with stolen clothes prompted an investigation in December.
Two women were arrested at the time but officers worked undercover to infiltrate the organization.
Investigators told Action 4 News that the group had been stealing cloth from stores in McAllen, Weslaco, the Outlet Mall in Mercedes and Brownsville.
The group would steal the clothes and resell them throughout the Rio Grande Valley for profit.
Authorities identified the six members of the shoplifting ring as:
- Anahi Sanchez, 18
- Adriana Flores, 26
- Yazmin G. Sanchez, 18
- Monica G. Sanchez, 45
- Norma P. Torres, 18
- Johnny A. Torres, 20
All six suspects are from Brownsville. They all appeared before a Weslaco Municipal Court judge on Saturday where they each received $50,000 dollar bonds.
They remain in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail.
