Weslaco toddler remains hospitalized after near drowning

A Weslaco toddler remains hospitalized following a near drowning at his family's swimming pool.

It all happened at a home near South Border Avenue and West 18th Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Weslaco police told Action 4 News that the boy's father was in the living room with another infant.

The boy's grandfather got up to let the dogs out but the backdoor was not properly secured.

The 2-year-old boy got out in the backyard and fell into the family's swimming pool.

Investigators said the boy's father found the 2-year-old floating in the pool, started CPR and got him breathing again but it was very shallow.

Paramedics rushed the boy to Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco but was later transferred to a hospital in McAllen.

The boy's current medical condition was not immediately available.
