The top law enforcement officer in Hidalgo County is now at the center of several lawsuits.
One lawsuit involves a whistleblower.
According to the lawsuit filed by attorney James Grissom, Miguel Flores TMs employment with the Hidalgo County Sheriff TMs Department was affected when he refused to commit an illegal act involving the notorious Panama Unit.
Flores participated with the FBI to uncover corruption in the sheriff TMs office, according to court records.
He was wearing a hidden recording device and was asked by Sheriff Lupe Trevino TMs most trusted subordinates to participate in illegal drug trafficking activities.
In the lawsuit, Flores claims he refused to participate and that the Hidalgo County Sheriff TMs Office instituted a campaign of retaliation, demoting him from narcotics investigator to patrol duty.
He lost wages because of this and he wants to be reinstated.
Sheriff Trevino said he is aware but cannot comment on the pending litigation.
