Witnesses report shots fired at popular McAllen bar

Scene outside Gamehaus

Authorities confirm that one man is dead following a shooting outside a popular bar in McAllen.

McAllen police were called out to the Gamehaus at 2109 West Nolana Avenue around 1 a.m. Friday.

Witnesses said the popular bar was temporarily placed on lockdown after the alleged shots were fired.

Paramedics and police all responded to the scene at the bar.

Deadly Bar Fight

People at the bar said the fight broke out inside and quickly escalated once it moved outside.

At least one person has been detained at the bar.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez confirmed that one man was killed while another was injured and remains hospitalized.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the person who was killed but friends and witnesses identified the man as Daniel Avila of Edinburg.

Avila reportedly worked at Freedom Fitness and as a bartender at a club in downtown McAllen.

Witness Accounts

Witness Randy Ramirez told Action 4 News that he saw it happen in front of him and his friends.

They all hit the ground when the main suspect pulled out a gun.

"The gangster guys that were fighting with the bikers knocked over two of the bikes outside and the biker girls got mad and started hitting them with their helmets and that's when the guys pulled out a gun in front of everyone and fired like five rounds," Ramirez said.

Lauren Almaraz said she also was there and that it was one of the scariest things she's ever encountered.

"A huge fight started inside with bottles breaking and pool sticks being broken between at least five to seven older men," she wrote. "The security stopped the fight and escorted some of the fighters outside and a few min later about eight gun shot were fired."
