Woman charged for motorcyclist's death

A motorcyclist is dead after an early morning crash at the intersection of Jackson Street and University Drive in Edinburg.

The woman accused of plowing into him faced manslaughter charges.

Edinburg police said Jose Mata was waiting for a traffic signal to turn green when the driver of a car plowed into the back of his motorcycle.

Police said Mata's motorbike was pushed through the intersection and he died at the scene.

While they aren't sure exactly what injuries were the cause of death, Edinburg police did arrest 28-year-old Zulai Zamora, also of Edinburg, after taking a blood sample from her at the scene.

The sample indicated that she was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

If you're going to be consuming in alcoholic beverages don't get behind the wheel of a vehicle. It is very dangerous, said Edinburg Police Department Lieutenant Oscar Trevio. If you are drinking and you get behind the wheel of a vehicle you are actually driving a deadly weapon. We need to prevent these types of tragedies from happening in the future."

Lt. Oscar Trevio said if a person is driving a motorcycle, they need to be on constant watch and aware of their surroundings.

Zamora has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and her bond was set at $250,000.
