Woman charged in La Feria DWI wreck

A 34-year-old woman is behind bars after she was allegedly behind the wheel intoxicated at the time of a rollover accident in La Feria.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the single-vehicle accident happened off the westbound lanes of Expressway 83 and Rabb Road late Saturday night.

La Feria police charged 34-year-old Monica Lee Perez with intoxcation assault and DWI.

Police Chief Don Garcia said her male passenger was injured in the accident and is expected to be fine.

Chief Garcia said Perez was traveling from South Padre Island and headed back to Edinburg.

Garcia said Perez has addresses in both Edinburg and Nacogdoches.

Perez appeared before a judge on Monday morning where she was formally charged and issued $9,000 dollars in bonds.

The 34-year-old woman remained in custody at the Cameron County Jail as of Tuesday morning.

Public records show that Perez is currently serving a two-year probation sentence for an October 2008 resisting arrest case.
