Woman credited with igniting new life into lonely WWII veteran

Ever since Jack Bartels wife died in 2006, he's been all alone.
"Who's come out here? Action 4 TMs Ryan Wolf asked. No one, the World War II veteran said. Just a bill collector maybe."
That is until Rosa Flores from the Hearing Aid Company in La Feria went to his Harlingen home to personally fit him for a device in May.
It's there where she discovered his health and home had been deteriorating.
Rosa hasn't left his side since and is responsible for changing the course of history for Jack.
Her kindness and compassion for him helped pave the way for his home to be repaired by volunteers from across the Rio Grande Valley.
"It means a whole lot that somebody cares for me, Jack said. Somebody special."
Rosa thinks Ryan is at her office on Thursday afternoon with friends of Action 4 News to discuss throwing Jack a party.
His birthday is at the end of the month.
"90-years-old, Rosa told the group. It's going to be very exciting for him."
Little does she know, Don Beto has nominated Rosa for the Pay it 4Ward prize.
The former Pay it 4Ward recipient learned about her connection to Jack while donating food to volunteers during last Saturday's community outreach for the vet.
"Rose, I couldn't believe the amount of people that were out there at Jack's house, he said to her. Lots of volunteers. I couldn't believe it. And it was because of you. Because you contacted Ryan Wolf, all of this has happened. And because of you, we all have a new grandfather. And I want to Pay it 4Ward."
It's not until Ryan shares how Ricardo Filizola and Karen Gonzalez with GEF Financial Agency are standing by too that Rosa realizes she TMs receiving the Pay it 4Ward prize.
"Oh my God! she said. I can't believe this!"
Ricardo is first to address Rosa.
"They say that some people spend their whole lives wondering if they made a difference in somebody's life and you're proof| he said before getting cut off by Rosa.
But this is not why I did this, she said.
I know it's not, Ricardo responded. I guarantee you touched this man's life forever and by touching him you touched the whole Valley. Just look at the response on Ryan's Facebook page and on the news."
Karen steps forward and asks Rosa to put out her hand.
"On behalf of GEF Financial and Action 4 News| Here's $400, she said.
Oh my God! Rosa said. This is unbelievable. I did not expect this. I'm serious. I did not expect this. Oh Ryan."
But there's one more surprise for Rosa.
"Thank you rose," Jack said in a recording played for her. I appreciate everything you've done for me. I want to congratulate you on the award. Thank you. I love you. Jack."
Rosa is brought to tears.
"Oh Jack, she said while touching the screen. I'm going to cry. I love him. Unbelievable. I did it out of my heart not expecting this."
Rosa says she plans to use her Pay it 4Ward prize to help throw her new friend Jack a 90th birthday party to remember.
