Woman found asleep in car with drugs, child in backseat

Harlingen police arrested a 22-year-old woman after finding her asleep in her car.

Police were called to the 1700 block of South F Street regarding a welfare concern.

When the officer arrived, he found Joanna Rivera of San Benito slumped over the steering wheel of a Jeep Cherokee and a child strapped into a back seat asleep.

The officer knocked on a window, opened the door and attempted to wake up, Rivera a report stated.

Police discovered a homemade bong, a torch and a silver box with marijuana inside a purse located on her lap.

Rivera was disoriented and her eyes were blood shot red when she woke up.

She was arrested and the child was released to a family member.

Rivera did not have a driver TMs license and she was wanted on $4,451.50 of outstanding warrants.
