A 55-year-old woman is facing criminal charges after neighbors found 2-year-old girl wandering a rural road by herself.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Maria Luisa Aguilar late Monday afternoon.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that neighbors found a 2-year-old girl wandering a remote stretch of FM 2480 by herself.
Deputies were interviewing witnesses when the girl's family came outside.
Aguilar told deputies that she was supposed to be watching the 2-year-old while the girl's mother was at work.
Deputies arrested Aguilar and charged her with child endangerment.
Authorities turned the 2-year-old girl over to the custody of her 18-year-old aunt.
Aguilar appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Alfredo Padilla on Tuesday morning where she was issued a $3,500 bond.
The 55-year-old woman remained in custody at the Cameron County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
