Woman who doesn't drive surprises friend with reward for kindness

Elisa Chairez thinks she's driven from McAllen to give her friend a ride home from work at D'Oro Home Health Services in Weslaco. She has no idea Action 4 News is there to help her friend Pay it 4Ward."Do you know who this person is?" asked Action 4's Ryan Wolf when Elisa exited her vehicle. "We're trying to find somebody."

      "Why?" she responded.

Maria Villarreal gave Ryan a photo of Elisa before she arrived.

It's all part of the surprise.

"Are you Elisa?" he asked again.

      "Yes," she said with hesitation.

"Elisa, I'm Ryan Wolf with Action 4 News."

      "And what's wrong? she asked.

"I'm here because I've heard some beautiful stories about you," Ryan said.

"Oh my gosh," Maria said. "With this person?" she asked while pointing to her friend Maria in the same photo.

"That's exactly right," Ryan said. "Maria come on out!"

      "Oh my god!"

Maria comes into the parking lot and turns to Elisa with tears in her eyes.

"You've helped me out so much and I want to thank you," she said. "I wish I could tell you with words. I know you travel a lot to help me. You've given your Sundays to me away from your family so you could take me. What's even more is when you took me to see my dad in the hospital. You picked me up and dropped me off. On behalf of Pronto Insurance and Action 4 News, here's $400 to Pay it 4Ward."

D'Oro staff, who are watching from the sidewalk, begin to clap in support of their co-worker TMs incredible efforts to thank her friend.

"She just feels like you are the greatest friend in the entire world," Ryan said to Elisa. "What are you feeling right now?"

"There's nothing that is asked, it's all from the heart," Elisa responded. "She's a friend, she's a sister and there TMs' no money... it's just friendship. It's out of the heart that I do it."

Because Maria doesn't drive, she credits her friend's generosity for helping in so many different ways.

She drives Maria to see her father in the hospital, trips for medicine for her parents, help with getting home from work and fun outings around town.

"She doesn't even hesitate," Maria said. "She picks me up, she tells me 'do you need to stop anywhere, do you need food, medications.'"

Elisa reiterates her love and support for Maria with just five words: "I'd do anything for her."

Domingo Reyna says that's why she's so deserving of the $400 Pronto Insurance pre-paid MasterCard.

"We're proud to present this prize to you," he said. "You deserve it. We're glad to see people like you who are giving without expecting anything in return."

"Thank you," Elisa said. "Thank you."

But there's one thing Elisa isn't that thankful for, Ryan making her heart sink.

"When I popped out with your picture, what were you thinking?" he asked.

"I plead the fifth," she laughingly said. "I'm sorry."
