Two women are facing criminal charges after taking their children along for a shoplifting spree at several stores inside Sunrise Mall.

Brownsville police arrested 23-year-old Veronica Arredondo and 27-year-old Virginia Jean Vargas on Friday evening.

Security officails with the Sears store inside the mall detained them for shoplifting.

But while going through their items, investigators learned the two women had stolen more than $990 dollar worth of items from Sears. Dillard's, Bealls and Burlington Coat Factory.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the women had two small children with them that were released to a family member.

Police charged each of them with Class A misdemeanor theft, two counts of Class B misdemeanor theft and organized retail theft.

The two women appeared before a Brownsville Municipal Court judge on Saturday morning where they were issued $8,000 in bonds.
