      Worker admits violations at food stand are 'pretty bad'

      Don Juanito's on 204 South 16th Street in McAllen is the dirtiest this week on Food 4 Thought.

      The eatery scored 30 demerits on a June 10th inspection.

      It sounds pretty bad," Luis Perez said.

      He's reacting to what's not on the menu.

      It includes violations like food not holding the proper temps, no hair restraints, food products without labels, bare hand contact on ready to eat food, no hot water, soap or towels for proper sanitation.

      Luis says the business will make positive changes.

      "We're gonna try to keep it as clean as possible to try and make it better for people," he said.

      Taqueria Hosanna on 33432 FM 732 in San Benito is shut down for one week last month by order of the health department.

      A kitchen cop says a roach infestation is discovered.

      The insect contamination is on the prep table and in the crevices of walls, according to the inspector.

      He says the owner failed to used proper professional pest control.

      Taqueria Hosanna has since reopened.

      Stripes on 30984 Highway 100 outside San Benito is dealing with insect contamination too.

      Live roaches turn up on a June 2nd county inspection.

      There are 10 demerits in all for violations including dirty equipment and drinks not 6 inches above the floor.

      Olive Garden on 7812 North 10th Street in McAllen is this week's featured top performer with 0 demerits.

      The Food Patrol is here to award a top performer sticker.

      "They are going to be so excited and so stoked!" Martin Fox, general manager said.

      He TMs talking about his staff.

      They TMre credited with the kitchen cleanliness.

      He adds how the sticker will be a welcomed sight for customers just like it is for him when he sees one up at other restaurants.

      "Why do you say that? Ryan asked.

      Because I know the restaurant business, he said. I've been in this a long time and I've seen some kitchens that are not quite what they should be.
