It TMs that time of the year when children are heading back to class, but families on a tight budget are sending their kids back to school without the basic school supplies.
That TMs why Freebirds in Mission is helping students from across the Valley start this school year with pencils, pens and the basic building blocks to get the year started right.
Freebirds Assistant General Manager Houston Jimenez is leading by example by motivating guests, co-workers and the community to lend a helping hand.
So this is something that the company, Freebirds, is very passion about, Jimenez said. If there is a local event going on here in the Valley, we definitely try to go out there to give a helping hand. Right now we have about 12 boxes filled with map colors, crayons, glue, scissors and we have a total of three backpacks donated with school supplies in them as well.
Seeing how great the need for supplies is, Jimenez said the decision to give back to the community is an easy one.
It struck a chord with me and I definitely wanted to get involved by making sure students have the necessary tools to make this next school year a successful one, Jimenez said.
The community can help Freebirds Fill the Bus by bringing donations like pencils, backpacks and more during business hours at their location at 2425 E. Expressway 83 in Mission.
Action 4 News will also be taking school supplies on Thursday at the station TMs Harlingen and Pharr locations.
