Wreck involving three cars, horse leaves driver injured
One person is recovering after a rollover accident involving three cars and a horse early Monday morning.
The accident happened Monte Cristo Road just west of FM 1015 north of Edcouch around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Hidalgo County Sherriff's Department deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers and paramedics all responded to the scene.
Investigators told Action 4 News that three vehicles and a horse were involved in the accident.
The accident remains under investigation but state troopers said two people were injured.
State troopers said a couple driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck was the first to hit the horse.
A Honda behind them also the horse while a Ford F-250 behind it also hit the horse.
All three cars received damaged but the impact of the accident caused the Honda to flip on its right side requiring the driver to be taken to a local hospital.
State troopers said they initially received a report that a cow had been involved in the accident but investigators discovered the animal was a horse.
It's not clear who owned the horse but under Texas state law, cattle and other livestock have the right of way on farm to market roads and other rural highways.
