McAllen investigators arrested 12 people over the course of a two-day prostitution sting.

Investigators began an undercover operation after receiving complaints about "females offering sex in exchange for money," near the downtown McAllen area, according to a criminal complaint.

Throughout the course of the investigation, McAllen investigators either assumed the role of a prostitute or solicited sex from women seen walking near the downtown area.

McAllen investigators arrested 12 people during the undercover operation:

  • Denise Alvarado, 35, of McAllen was charged with prostitution, a state jail felony. Alvarado remains in the Hidalgo County jail on a $2,500 bond and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Cyndi Lauren Herrera, 27, of McAllen was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Herrera remains in the Hidalgo County jail on a $2,000 bond and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Raul Garza Bazan, 72, of Mission was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Bazan remains in the Hidalgo County jail on a $2,000 bond and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Fermin Melendez Jr., 45, of Temple was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Melendez was released from the Hidalgo County jail Friday and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Javier Serrato, 37, of Weslaco was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Serrato was released from the Hidalgo County jail Friday and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Sarah Sanchez, 26, of Pharr was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Sanchez remains in the Hidalgo County jail on a $2,000 bond and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Brenda Vargas, 36, of McAllen was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor. Vargas remains in the Hidalgo County jail on a $2,000 bond and couldn't be reached for comment.
  • Jose Luis Lopez-Rodriguez, 38, of McAllen was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdeamanor; and fail to ID, a Class B misdemeanor, according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department.
  • Jesus Fernando Silva, 36, of Mission was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the news release.
  • Julio Cesar Valdivia, 39, of McAllen was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the news release.
  • Henry Lee Alvarado, 49, of Mission was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the news release.
  • Antonio Alejandro Longoria, 28, of San Juan was charged with prostitution, a Class B misdemeanor, according to the news release.
