A 25-year-old McAllen woman was charged in connection to a fatal crash that occurred Thursday morning.

Police say Valerie Elizabeth Guerra, 25, of McAllen failed to yield the right of way near the intersection of Main Street and Pecan Boulevard and subsequently collided with a motorcylist, later identified as 31-year-old Robert Perales III of Donna, according to the criminal complaint against her.

Perales was pronounced dead on the scene.

During a body search, McAllen police found a bag with a powdery white substance inside Guerra's left rear pocket, according to the criminal complaint. The substance later tested postive for cocaine.

After conducting several field sobriety tests, McAllen police arrested Guerra.

She was charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony.

A judge set bond at $41,000.

Guerra was released from the Hidalgo County jail on Thursday, according to jail records. She couldn't be reached for comment.
