Police arrest woman accused of robbing 5 people at gunpoint near McAllen Convention Center
Officers arrested a woman Saturday night after she robbed five people at gunpoint near the McAllen Convention Center, according to the criminal complaint against her.
At 10:17 p.m., the McAllen Police Department dispatched an officer to the Convention Center to investigate a robbery.
The officer met with five young men, who said a woman robbed them at gunpoint, according to the criminal complaint. The young men drove around Oval Park — the park with a pond south of the Convention Center — "yelling inside the vehicle as they passed around the pond."
A woman stepped in front of the car, forcing them to stop.
"Y'all think you're cool or what," the woman said, according to one of the five young men who recounted the incident to police.
The woman pulled out a black pistol and pushed it against the young man's abdomen, according to the criminal complaint.
"Give me all of your s--- or I'm gonna shoot him!" the woman said, according to one of the five young men who recounted the incident to police.
They gave the woman money and drove away.
Officers detained the woman, 18-year-old Samantha Gonzalez Cerda of McAllen, near a hotel southwest of the Convention Center.
"Samantha was cooperative with investigators and escorted them to the location of where she discarded the handgun in a bush," according to the criminal complaint.
Cerda is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
Court records don't list an attorney for Cerda, who remains at the Hidalgo County jail and couldn't be reached for comment.
