Matamoros shootout leaves 2 dead in gun battle

Two people are dead in Mexico after a shootout involving people in a Chevrolet Suburban with State of Oklahoma license plates.

The Mexican government announced that the shootout took place in Matamoros on Saturday.

The Mexican military was allegedly attacked by people in the Suburban when they returned fire, the Mexican government confirms.

Two armed civilians in Mexico were shot and killed by the military during the gunfire exchange.

Currently, the two dead men have not been identified, but they are said to be in their 20s and 30s.

The attack happened at the intersection of Uniones and Las Torres del Parque Industrial del Norte in Matamoros.

The Mexican authorities confirm a hand grenade, 36 gun magazines and tactical equipment were all found in the Suburban.
