Peitas traffic stop leads to 400-pound pot bust

A routine traffic stop ended in a major pot bust in Peitas on Wednesday.

An officer pulled over the driver of a truck.

As the officer questioned the driver, the officer reportedly smelled marijuana.

The suspect allowed the officer to search the truck.

When he opened the tailgate, he found 400 pounds of pot.

The Peitas police chief said his department has seen an increase in this type of crime."

We have been seeing an increase on the loads coming in," explained Chief Oscar Ontiveros. "I think it has to do with the border wall and smugglers are desperate to get their loads across."
