Donald Trump Jr. on Comey testimony: '#givemeabreak'
Over an hour into former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, President Donald Trump had not yet tweeted any response to his claims.
Donald Trump Jr., however, was live-tweeting the event.
In addition to retweeting comments that supported his father’s version of events, he repeatedly criticized Comey for his interpretation of Trump’s request that he drop an investigation of fired National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
Trump Jr. called the suggestion that the president’s comment constituted obstruction of justice “BS.”
“I hear ‘I hope nothing happens but you have to do your job,’” he said.
“Knowing my father for 39 years when he ‘orders or tells’ you to do something there is no ambiguity, you will know exactly what he means,” Trump Jr. added.
He also mocked Comey for not taking action at the time if he felt Trump's request was improper.
"So if he was a 'Stronger guy' he might have actually followed procedure & the law? You were the director of the FBI, who are you kidding?" he tweeted.
Trump Jr. emphasized Sen. Marco Rubio's observation that many details damaging to the president have been leaked, but the confirmation that he was not personally under investigation was not.
"We all know that there is no way anyone in the swamp would leak something favorable to #potus. Otherwise this whopper would be everywhere!" he wrote.
He also retweeted several comments by attorney Alan Dershowitz indicating President Trump's actions were not a crime.
"Interesting! When @AlanDersh (not exactly the alt right) is continually backing up @realDonaldTrump you know its over. #NothingBurger," he tweeted.
