Honduran women, children deported on special flight home

Honduran First Lady reported on Facebook that the children and their mothers were all deported from the U.S.

The journey has ended for at least 21 children from 17 families who were returned to Honduras today.

Honduran First Lady Ana Garcia de Hernandez reported on Facebook that the children and their mothers were all deported from the United States.

Arriving on a special flight, the first lady was on hand to greet them at the airport in Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa.

A special summit among Central American nations is expected to take place on Wednesday.

The main topic of the summit will be the ongoing immigration crisis, which many characterize as a refugee or humanitarian crisis.

Thousands of women and children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala have fled ongoing gang violence.

The immigrants pass through Mexico and cross the border into the Rio Grande Valley where they are taken into Border Patrol custody and released for an immigration court date.

Some of the immigrants are already being deported back home to Honduras.

Garcia de Hernandez reported that today TMs deportation flight was the first of its kind since the crisis started.
