A grand jury in New York has indicted sex offender Michael Mele on murder charges in connection with the disapperance and death of McAllen native Laura Garza.

The Times Herald-Record reported that 25-year-old Mele was indicted by an Orange County grand jury on two counts of second-degree murder, one count each of first-degree and second-degree manslaughter and four counts of tampering with physical evidence.

The Middletown, New York-based newspaper reported that multiple murder and manslaughter counts represent different theories of the crime.

The newspaper reported that the tampering with evidence charges refer to Garza's body, carpet patches in Mele's Town of Wallkill apartment and a floor mat in Mele's car.

The Times Herald-Record reported that the Orange County District Attorney's Office is holding a 2:30 p.m. press conference to discuss the case.

Garza moved from McAllen to New York City to pursue a career as a dancer.

She was seen leaving a Manhattan nightclub with melee back on Dec. 3, 2008.

Her body was found in a rural area of Pennsylvania back in April.

Investigators claim to have linked Melee to crime.
