WhiteWings to help tornado victims
Fri, 02 Mar 2012 05:06:12 GMT —
Heartache from tornadoes in the country's heartland is being felt in the Valley.
Doug Robinson is general manager for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, a professional baseball team in Harlingen.
He spent most of Thursday watching television and searching the internet for information on storms that ripped through the Midwest.
Robinson grew up near Harrisburg, Illinois where deadly tornados hit Wednesday.
He and the WhiteWings are now working to gather donations to help those in that area.
That TMs what the WhiteWings organization is all about, said Robinson. When the guys offered to do this, I was overcome with a little bit of emotion, a little bit of sadness and a little bit of enthusiasm.
Water, diapers, canned food and cleaning items are the primary items organizers are looking for.
You can drop off your donation at the WhiteWings baseball stadium in Harlingen, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The WhiteWings are also looking for someone with a trailer to deliver the donations to Illinois.
