Two women are behind bars after a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) canine found heroin in a maroon 2007 Honda Pilot.
Driver Jacqueline Reyes and her passenger Carmina Epifinia Reyes tried to smuggle 20 pounds of heroin into the U.S. on Wednesday.
During a second inspection, CBP officers found eight bundles of heroin in the floorboard of the vehicle, as they attempted to cross the Veteran TMs International Bridge in Brownsville.
According to court documents obtained by Action 4 News, CBP officers saw a tampered row of seats and undercarriage of the vehicle.
Court documents stated a drug detector dog alerted officers about the narcotics in the Honda Pilot.
Both women are now under U.S. Marshal custody.
They will be arraigned by Magistrate Judge Felix Recio at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Judge Recio denied bond for both women.
