A Hidalgo County man is behind bars after he threatened a family with a knife and stole a Virgin Mary statue from their front yard.
Hidalgo County Sheriff TMs Office deputies arrested Agustin Casanova on multiple charges on Saturday night.
Deputies were called out to a home east of Edinburg near the intersection of Trenton Road and Jam Square around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
A family told deputies Casanova threatened them with a kitchen knife, tried to stab them and took their statue as he fled.
Deputies found Casanova at a nearby abandoned home wearing only blue jean shorts.
The 20-year-old man allegedly had the knife, a baggie of marijuana and the statue.
It TMs not clear why Casanova took the statue but deputies told Action 4 News that they believe he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Deputies charged Casanova with possession of marijuana and failure to identity while an aggravated robbery charge remains pending.
