A Harlingen man is behind bars after he allegedly used a metal bar to beat three people at an assisted living center.

Harlingen police arrested 28-year-old Brandon Schmitt early Friday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News were called to the Villa Residential assisted living center off Loop 499 around 12:08 a.m. Friday.

Officers found a 51-year-old woman who had been beaten and left bleeding on the floor.

Police found Schmitt beating a second person.

Officers reported that they had to use a taser to arrest Schmitt because he would not respond to their orders to stop.

A third victim was found at the scene. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified Schmitt as a resident of the center.

Police charged Schmitt with burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit a felony.

Schmitt appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Saturday morning where he was issued a $150,000 dollar bond.

The Harlingen man remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
