South Texas ISD buses vandalized

Authorities report that several school buses belonging to the South Texas Independent School District were vandalized over the weekend.

Drivers discovered the damaged buses when they arrived to work at the district TMs South Sugar Road facility early Monday morning.

One bus was crashed into another while one was crashed into a tree and another was found crashed into a canal or retaining pond.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a total of eight school buses were damaged.

Edinburg police said surveillance cameras captured the acts of vandalism and that the suspects could be charged with felony criminal mischief.

Authorities said some students to the district TMs Med-High campus in Mercedes were late to classes because of the vandalism.

South Texas ISD officials were able to borrow buses from the McAllen and Edinburg Independent School Districts.

Authorities told Action 4 News that the district is working on repairing or replacing the damaged buses.
