Kids help return kindness to La Feria neighbor in need

Abby Marin gets a group hug

The Uribe family in La Feria is on a mission to reward kindness.

Over the past few months Deserea, Marisa, Sadie and Jamie have received much needed clothes, backpacks and school supplies from a loving neighbor.

On Christmas morning, the kids who range in ages from 10 to 15, were all surprised with new bikes including their parents.

The generosity from Abby Marin lifted their spirits during tough times.

Lupe and Lisa Uribe both can't find work and recently lost their vehicle because of financial difficulties.

They want to Pay it 4Ward.

Abby is surprised outside her home on Bearfield Lane in La Feria.

"I don't know what you guys are up to?" Abby said with a puzzled look.

"Well, I called Ryan here... so I could let the whole Valley know what a special person you are to me," Lisa, mother of 4 said with tears in her eyes. "You've done so much for my family. You've helped us so much through our struggles. When we were down, you've given us so much that nobody has ever done for us. I just want to thank you. I was struggling so hard and didn't know how to make it and you were there."

"I can't take all the credit," Abby interjected. "I give all the credit to our Heavenly Father. He did this. He put it into my heart and not just me but into the First Church of the Nazarene."

Bill Jones with GEF Financial steps in next to award the cash prize as a Pay it 4Ward partner.

"Mrs. Marin, it's a privilege to meet you," Bill said while shaking her hand. "I want you to know that you're the ultimate neighbor. I saw the children's faces when they received their bicycles at Christmas time and you're terrific. So on behalf of Action 4 News and GEF Financial we'd like to Pay it 4Ward!"

      Bill hands Abby $400.

She gives him a big hug and says, "Thank you so much."

"On the contrary, thank you," Bill responded.

Abby is going through some troubles of her own.

She says the prize money will really help her out with finances and her family.

"I wasn't expecting any of this," she said while visually choked up. "I just love them. They're like family. We're all family here. We look out for each other. And this is amazing."

      Neighbors helping neighbors.

"It's something everyone should do without even thinking twice," Abby said.
