The 2010 National Census Day kicked off at the McAllen Convention Center Thursday morning.
Rio Grande Valley leaders and spirited members of the community got together to celebrate.
A post master was even on hand to collect the census forms which will determine how much federal money the Valley can get.
"It's important for our kids, for our roads, for our security," said Texas state Rep. Aaron Pea (D - Edinburg).
County judges for Cameron, Willacy, and Hidalgo Counties were also present at the rally.
