Five candidates threw their hats in the ring to become the next mayor of Mercedes.
But back in May, no one captured more than 50 percent of the vote spurring runoff between Henry Hinojosa and Ruben "Chano" Guajardo.
Voters went to the polls on Saturday and Hinojosa came out with 1,012 votes, or about 53 percent of the ballot.
Guajardo received 900 votes, or about 47percent of the ballot.
Action 4 News caught up with Hinojosa on Saturday night.
He said the race was a long hard fight, but he's excited to get to work.
Both Jose M. Gomez and Rodolfo "Rudy" Rodriguez were also elected to the Mercedes City Commission.
