La Feria JP court on the chopping block

One of La Feria TMs two justice of the peace courts is on the chopping block.
The Cameron County Commissioner TMs Court is meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Among five action items, is a proposal to eliminate the Justice of the Peace Precinct 7-2 court in La Feria.
The move would eliminate Justice of the Peace Dan Sanchez TMs post and the jobs of his two employees.
The county is looking at cost-saving measures in the face of a budget deficit and plan to keep the Precinct 7-1 Court for Judge Adam Gonzales open.
Sanchez tells Action 4 News that he and his supporters are fighting the proposed action.
"The biggest loss comes to the people," Sanchez told Action 4 News.
The La Feria Justice of the Peace said closing the court would have a negative impact on truancy cases and other court services for the area.
Sanchez told Action 4 News that his term expires in December 2010 but that the deadline for file candidacy in the race is on Friday, December 4th.
The La Feria-based judge said his court historically accepted and heard Texas Department of Public Safety cases from the Los Indios International Bridge.
Those cases were divided among other JP courts starting about a year and a half ago.
Sanchez said he favors getting those cases back and keeping his court open.
