A jury cleared a substitute La Joya teacher of child molestation charges but a lawsuit filed against him and the school district remains alive.
The parents of eight children filed a lawsuit against La Joya ISD, Superintendent Alda Benavides and former substitute teacher Armando Gutierrez.
The students accused Gutierrez of luring them with candy to molest them.
A Hidalgo County jury acquitted Gutierrez in a criminal case but court records show the lawsuit landing in federal court.
The case landed in federal court on August 4th.
Gutierrez was cleared of the criminal charges on August 7th but federal court records show the lawsuit remains pending before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane.
