Former Willacy County District Attorney Juan Guerra tried to unseat a long-time 197th state District Court Judge Migdalia Lopez.
But early numbers indicate Migdalia Lopez winning by a landslide over challenger Juan Angel Guerra. This race for judge will represent both Cameron and Willacy counties in the 197th District Court. In the last couple of years Guerra has been in and out of several scandals, including chaining himself to the Willacy County Courthouse with farm animals.
Guerra also is known for indicting over 20 people in 2008 including former Vice President Dick Chaney and his opponent Migdalia Lopez.
Without a Republican opponent in November, she's expected to take her seat on the bench back.
