A longtime Texas congressman who failed in his 2010 re-election bid has been cleared in an ethics review of how he spent government funds during overseas trips.
Democrat Solomon Ortiz of Corpus Christi in November lost to Republican Blake Farenthold, who was being sworn in Wednesday.
Ortiz faced a travel-related review by members of the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
A staff recommendation, dated Dec. 30, was for the committee to close its investigation after evidence did not support any alleged rules violations.
Ortiz did not immediately comment Tuesday. He was first elected to Congress in 1982.
