The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball dropped a non-conference match against the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders 3-0 on Tuesday at Dugan Wellness Center
Sophomore Michelle McNamee led the Broncs (9-13) in kills for the third-straight match, recording six. Junior Nycole Masaki had the team-high in assists with 12, and services aces with three.
Winners of seven in a row, the Islanders (16-6) were led by Brianna Brink, who had 10 kills, Logen Bourque, who had 30 assists, and Brooke Alverson, who seven of the Islanders TM 14 service aces.
The Islanders jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after hitting .591 (13 kills on 22 attacks with no errors) to win the first set 25-12.
The second set was close early, as the Broncs found themselves within 11-9 after an attack error by Ivy Baresh, but a kill by Bourque was the first of five-straight points scored by the Islanders as they pulled away for a 25-17 victory.
The Broncs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set thanks in part to a kill by McNamee and a pair of service aces by Masaki, but the Islanders responded with a 4-0 run to tie it up. The Broncs were within 12-11 a little later, but the Islanders scored five-straight point to go up 17-11 before winning 25-16.
The Broncs return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Great West Conference opponent Houston Baptist University at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
