Cowboys Change Mind On Romo-Missing 1st Full Contact Practice Of Camp

The strange case of Tony Romo's rehab from injury continues. The 34-year old Cowboys QB, who had his 2nd back surgery in under a year this past December, had fully participated in both of the full-pads full contact practices so far this training camp. After a day off yesterday, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones said on Dallas radio this morning that Romo would don pads this afternoon as well. But in his press conference only a few hours later, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said that Romo would, in fact, not be participating in the 2nd practice of the day, noting "he did his work this morning in walkthrough and we want to be careful.'While stressing that there had been no setback in Romo's condition, Garrett said getting Tony ready for the regular season was paramount."You really point yourselves toward that first game in San Francisco, you want to have that in mind the whole time. You know Tony's competitive, you know he wanted to be involved in every OTA practice, he wanted to take every rep, but we have to step in there and say 'no, we're not going to do that', because we've got to remember it's a 16-game season that begins in September."
