HS quarterback breaks neck following rollover accident

Officials have confirmed more information following Tuesday nights car accident involving a Mercedes High School senior and a recent high school graduate.

Mercedes TM Tigers quarterback Isaiah Garza and Lisa Ramirez were taking the Vermont Ave. exit off Expressway 83 when their car rolled over.

Garza went into surgery at Valley Baptist Medical Center following the rollover. Officials confirmed he broke his 4th, 5th and 6th vertebrae in his neck.

Ramirez TM condition still remains unknown at this time. Police last confirmed she was in placed in ICU immediately following the accident.

Both of them were wearing seatbelts.

Mercedes Superintendent Dr. Daniel Trevino, Jr. met with both Ramirez' and Garza's parents following the accident.

Trevino also addressed the atheletes in Wednesday morning practice. He said the team is trying to remain focused.

A prayer gathering for Garza and Ramirez will be held at the Valley Baptist Medical Center Gazebo area at 8:45 p.m.
