A heated exchange of words ended with a Port Isabel Tarpons football player allegedly getting hit by a car driven by a former teammate.
According to sources, a group of teens were arguing in Laguna Vista late Friday night.
Football player Esteven Montelongo allegedly approached a car driven by a former teammate.
That former teammate drove the car striking Montelongo.
Montelongo reported on Twitter that he has been released from the hospital.
"I just have to put my faith into God;s Hands and hopefully ill be able to play football again," Montelongo wrote on Twitter.
Laguna Vista police took Montelongo's former teammate into custody.
The incident comes ahead of the team's first game of the season.
The Tarpons are scheduled to play the Brownsville Veterans Chargers at Sams Stadium in Brownsville on Saturday evening.
